Re: Lokar floor shifter
Have it. Fine for a daily but don't race with it. You push and hold the button and it will move to reverse or neutral drive or second from drive you can simply push up to nuetral and if its by accident or a blonde gf :/ and you have no rev limiter bye bye engine. From drive you can simply slap it and downshift to second. This makes taking off on the highway and destroying a Hondas ego very easy. Starting from first you just push up to go up gears and watch out for nuetral.
All in all lokar couldn't have made a worse shift gate for a shifter. But once your used to it it's ok I guess Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Lokar floor shifter
If they made a better shift gate that worked like a ratchet shifter and I had a reverse manual valvebody and could just slap the shifter down to shift up and it had a nuetral and reverse isolation it would be great.
Truth is this shifter is designed for your grandpas garage queen t-bucket Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Lokar floor shifter
I was planning in getting my th350 rebuilt and getting a manual reverse valve body. There's a trans shop called Jakes performance in Sanger tx.

Re: Lokar floor shifter
I would stay away from this shifter with a reverse valve body.

Re: Lokar floor shifter
Ya I looked on summit and lokar looks to be the only linkage operated shifter.

Re: Lokar floor shifter
Yes and that can be a pain as well. A hole in the floor is required. I had a cable operated one in my bracket car for years worked fine

Re: Lokar floor shifter
i run a B&M mega truck shifter in my 73 and love it you can still hit neutral on accident but it works as a regular shifter and a ratchet shifter and you can only put it in reverse and park from the drive position and you have to lift the little handle with your fingers to do so it is pretty much impossible to do it by accident... ive had a few buddies run this lokar shifter and they all have switched them out for something else now

Re: Lokar floor shifter
Indeed no if b&m or hurst made a simple looking comp shifter like this solid mounted as well then I'm swapping for sure. Otherwise I'm going to try and mod the shift gate

Re: Lokar floor shifter
I got my floor mounted lokar shifter about a year ago and i'm just now getting around to mounting it... I have a turbo 400 reverse pattern and a brake. They custom made my shifter to work with my trans for the same price as their other shifters... Hope it works!!! Should i mount this above the floor or below the floor? Looks like i need to knock out a pretty good sized hole!!

Re: Lokar floor shifter
There was a Lokar in my 77 when I bought it. I switched from buckets to a bench after awhile. Once I changed seats the shifter would not go into first gear because it hit the seat. Long story short, I pulled it out and put it on Ebay and sold it for enough to buy a truck megashifter and still put some coin in my pocket. One problem was I was left with a massive hole in the floorboard from the Lokar. I took some aluminum and formed a patch panel and glued and screwed it done. That lead to my floor not being strong enough to support the megashifter so I took some 3/16" flat bar and reinforced it underneath where I drilled holes for the new shifter. Plenty strong now!
On a side note, I had never seen a Lokar shifter like that before and when I drove the truck before I bought it the PO told me it was a ratchet shifter. Bad mistake! I am pretty sure I dang near floated the valves during the test drive!
