mounting shocks
Hi all,
im transplanting 4x4 axles to my strait frame on my 49 my question is, is there any specific angle that shocks have to be mounted at. also i have seen it both ways but is mounting a shock going opposite directions or same direction better..ex both shocks angle off axle to rear or one forward and other backward? Thanks for the help in advance |

Re: mounting shocks
Vertical is best and the closer to the wheel the better.
@degrees you get 10deg. 98% 30deg. 86% 45deg. 70% From herb Adams chassis Engineering. |

Re: mounting shocks
I'd study some solid axle 4x4's and see what angle their shocks mount at. Take a look at some of the local 4x4's with fairly stock suspensions when you are out and about and see what angle their shocks sit at. I think you will come in at pretty close to vertical as Mknittle (hey I spelled that without looking) suggested though.

Re: mounting shocks
Make sure the bolts on each end are parallel if you fab mounts. I got mine a little off and the shock would not move thru the full motion of the axle, so i got to do them twice.
