60-61 Heavy Duty 1 Ton???
I looked at a 60-61 Chevy 1 ton today, sorry no pics. This truck caught my eye as how it set up, I thought it was a 4x4. Got into the weeds looking at it it has a leaf spring front and rear, large 5 bolt 17' bud wheels on front and back. The front spring mounts look factory, has a big stack of rear springs, plus massive overloads. Any Ideas?

That sounds more like a C40. Did the front fenders have the 'flared' openings?

Re: 60-61 Heavy Duty 1 Ton???
Brought it home today, no fender flares, I wish. The cab and fenders have been replaced with a 1/2 ton flat floorboard cab. Took pictures, I am in a middle of a move, can't find my camera cable, Will post pics when find cable. Truck sets up like a Bulldog. I am thinking a HD 1 ton 4x4 build. Does a C 40 use regular fenders or are they in the style of a C 60?

The one C40 I have seen had the fenders similar to a C60.

Re: 60-61 Heavy Duty 1 Ton???
The frame has been bobbed at the back. The cab has a flat floorboard and Apachce 10 embelms, not original cab. I notice in the truck brochure they showed the bus as a c40 with regular front sheetmetal.

Re: 60-61 Heavy Duty 1 Ton???
Looks like it may have been a 4x4 and someone turned it into a two wheeler.
Front wheel bolt pattern looks wrong, should be an eight lug, looks like 5 or6. Maybe I'm wrong. |

Re: 60-61 Heavy Duty 1 Ton???
We had a 46 and 52 Chevy trucks on the farm years ago, large stake trucks.
Both trucks used the 10/5 bolt combo, same wheels on both ends. The idea was you are carrying more weight in the rear. A friend just sold a 57 stake truck with the same wheel combo. The large truck through the 60s did the same thing. I think they started with the 50 series trucks. |
