Transmission Questions
Is the bellhousing bolt pattern on a 305 V6 the same as a V8? I have an NV-3500 sitting in my shop and was wondering if I could put that behind the V6 in my truck. Or, would a T-5 bolt up to the stock bellhousing and use the stock clutch? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Transmission Questions
305 V6 in GMC's have a different bolt pattern from Chevy. The V6's did use an adapter plate for trucks with factory automatic transmissions that would enable you to convert over. They come up occasionally on Ebay or you can check the discussion group on:
6066gmcguy.org The T-5 could be adapted to the stock bell housing behind your V6. However, the T-5 isn't a very strong transmission and the V6 has a lot of torque. The Inliners.org has some good write ups on adapting T-5's. I am running a 3 speed with overdrive (T-85). Two different versions were used in the 50's and 60's in Chevies if you are looking to get an overdrive gear into your truck. You can read about them here: http://speedprint.com/deves50/overdriveindex.php Hope this helps. Regards, Steve New Orleans |

Re: Transmission Questions
I'm not dead set on getting overdrive, just trying to find the best way to spend my money. In order to get it on the road I need to buy a floor shifter for it....then i got to thinking/wondering if that cash could be used towards something a little better. Thanks.

Re: Transmission Questions
Pretty sure someone on the Jolly 6066 site did this already; just needed an adapter(which he made) to mate the tranny.
