bushing replacement on stock springs

Hey guys I got a set of stock Chevy 3/4 ton front leaf springs and I ordered a set of energy suspension bushings to put in them. My question is I drilled out the rubber and got the metal part the bolt goes through and all the rubber out, do I remove the part that was on the outside diameter of the rubber bushing the real thin metal sleeve? Does this part come with the new bushings?

If your going to polyurethane just stop and return them. Unless your strictly drag racing they are useless

Well the original rubber bushings are shot so I need new ones anyway and they are cheap enough. Also I heard more than a few members get them and liked them so that's why I ordered them.

I had to remove that sleeve when I put new bushings in a while back. Hang onto that inner bolt sleeve, you need to reuse that. Grease them up real good when installing, too.

Re: bushing replacement on stock springs

They kill articulation and can cause binding. IMO there isn't much gain worth running these

Re: bushing replacement on stock springs

Hey guys so I got those metal sleeves around the inside of the spring eye out using the sawzall. It worked very well except I gouged the spring eye metal toward the edge about 1/32" deep by 1/2" long into the spring eye with the saw blade. I cleaned up the metal and just filled in the cut with weld and ground back down with my die grinder. Just wanted to get your opinions if it is still safe to run or if I should just get another spring. I would rather be safe than sorry, stupid mistake on my part for not being more careful. Thanks guys

Its the very shiny spot in the bottom part of the eye near the front

huh ok, the way everyone talked about them I thought they were the ones to have, I'll give them a try and if I don't like them I will swap back to the rubber. Thanks

On the front. I won't on the rear since those are supporting suspension parts

It should take something very traumatic to break it.

Re: bushing replacement on stock springs

Yea, I just wanted that saw blade groove filled in and smoothed out cause I knew the groove could cause a crack. I will prob just use the hack saw to get the rear ones out.

Re: bushing replacement on stock springs

I used a hack saw to cut one notch, then pounded them out with a chisel and hammer.

I'm not sure about poly bushings limiting articulation and causing binding. If you want them quiet for the long haul, get a set of greasable bolts and sleeves front and rear and be done with it. They are fine to run on both ends.

I'm sure others sell them as well, but I have their hardware on my truck and the quality is good. It also seems to flex just fine.
