Title question
I know that there were title irregularities with GM cars in the 50's, but was it still happening to the trucks in the late 60's? My Ohio title says 1968 GMC truck and we always called it a 1968 GMC because it is, but looking at the title today using a vin decoder, it doesn't play out like the decoder says. First, the original title is at home in the safe and I have the duplicate title that was issued to me when I got the truck from my Mom. The Duplicate title does have an error on it ( an extra digit "0") when compared to the door tag, but even given that as a clerical error, the VIN shows a 0 for the year, not an 8. Here's the VIN: CE20D-PB75679.

Re: Title question
I took the numbers from the back side of my block and learned that it was built in September of '68. Ditto the date stamp on the label for the seat belts. Based on what I found....no build sheet....these numbers seem to indicate that my truck, a '69, was an early '69.
Lots of info in those numbers....

Re: Title question
Nice Truck! If you decide to pull those mirrors off I want to be at the head of the list. :-)
If you want to post the SPID we can try and decode it for you to come up with "as built". It looks pretty close now though.

Re: Title question
Without a build sheet, SPID or a protect-o-plate it boils down to an educated guess on the build.

Re: Title question
![]() I've had a number of trucks with the SPID removed...and I never understood why anyone would want to do that. Several times it was apparent the SPID had been removed and the inside of the glove box door sanded, etc. Unfortunately, with the older trucks, there typically isn't any reliable source documenting the build options.
