Re: 79 chevy c10
The oil pressure sending unit screws into an elbow and then in to the block. It located in the rear of the engine by the distributor.

Re: 79 chevy c10
hard line on 79? thought hard line would have been older, but drivers side on back of block right beside distributor, right where the intake meets the top of the block, going to be real hard to see without climbing up in the engine bay.

Yep, it a pita to get to. Make sure you got a short 9/16 open end wrench.

Re: 79 chevy c10
Seems like a hassle, but I've replaced my manifold and didn't see any elbow or line on my clock. Cvould it be that it was plugged? Another dumb question, if that's the pressure sending unit then what is the OPS with a tooth for a wire on the driver side of the under the manifold doing there?

Re: 79 chevy c10
Look for another hole on the front of the block between the water pump and the intake.

Re: 79 chevy c10
You can put a opsu by the oil filter. There a inlet there for one. Only problem is it doesn't monitor pressure as good as up top.
Thanks motornut. Sometimes I can't think right lol. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 79 chevy c10
i am going to try and remember to get a picture of the factory hard line for oil pressure, all the pictures so far show electric sending units.
some of the models actually had a hard copper line from the block thru the firewall to the back of the guage. so yes you are reading it right. you had hot pressurized oil in the cab right behind the guage. now you know why this option didnt go far. ![]() |
