Widest rear tire 4/5 drop

I'll probably do a 4/5 drop on my 82 Sierra.

Anyone know if I could fit a 29x15.50x15 on the rear without any mods to the frame or wheel wells?

I'm gonna be using a 15x10 wheel with 5 inch backspacing on the back.

Thanks guys.

Thanks. I would love to see some pics of that size on a square.

I'm looking at getting these
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mtt-6558/overview/

but it says they require a tube, I don't know anything about that.

Re: Widest rear tire 4/5 drop

Anyone know where i can find a wider selection of that tire size?

Or is it only MT and Hoosier who make them?

Re: Widest rear tire 4/5 drop

A 15.50 tire should be used on a 12" wide wheel. For a 10" Id go with a 12.50. This is a 315/60r15 which translates to 30"x13.50 tire on a 15x10 wheel with 5" backspace. This is as wide as you can go without cutting the wheeltub. I still had to trim the edge of the fender lip do to the sidewall of the tire. This is also with a 5" rear drop. Your 15.50 tire will require tubbing no doubt about it.

Re: Widest rear tire 4/5 drop

Your truck looks great, if i go with a 10 inch wheel I'll probably do 315/60 and trim the fender lip, that was my original plan anyway. Whats your front tires, wheels, and drop? Your overall stance is great, that's what i'm aiming for.

So, 15:50 will require tubbing no matter what backspacing of the wheel, correct?

Heres a side view. I lowered it more right after this pic then tore the truck apart to rebuild it. Just need to finish my stepside 1st, then this truck gets put back on the road.

Re: Widest rear tire 4/5 drop

Thanks and yes you are correct. 15.50s will need wheeltubs widened. Fronts are 215/70r15 on 15x7s. In that pic it had a 2 1/2" drop spindle and a cut coil.

Re: Widest rear tire 4/5 drop

Alright, thanks for the info I guess first of all I've got to figure out what to do with my headers, before I lower my truck. I may need more clearance than I have now.

Re: Widest rear tire 4/5 drop

If you have full length hedders then swap them out for 3/4 length. Gives alot more clearance.

Yeah, I have long tubes. I haven't seen many 3/4 lengths available for an SBC. Any certain brands you know of?

Thanks.

Chevelle headers work & also come in the 3/4 length variety.

Re: Widest rear tire 4/5 drop

I found some Patriot Clipster headers, that should fit. They are mid length.

I just hope they would work with my Sportsman II Heads.

Re: Widest rear tire 4/5 drop

I think I will go ahead and lower my truck with the long tubes on it and see if it works out ok, if it doesn't I'll get some patriot clippster mid lengths.
