87 pickup not getting gas
i just bought a 87 1/2 ton truck with 350. has been sitting for 2 to 3 years.
was not much trouble getting started, but the next day it would not start. it has the efi and is not getting gas to carb, will run if u pour gas in carb. gas tank has plenty of fresh gas, and i can hear a click and hear the fuel pump cut on in the gas tank when u cut the switch on. what kind of problem do i have?

Re: 87 pickup not getting gas
Fuel pump or the rubber hose connecting the fuel pump to the sending unit is bad.
Can you hear the pump run when you turn the key on?

Re: 87 pickup not getting gas
I had the same issue with a 87 GMC and we just replaced the throttle body. But it could be your fuel pump

Re: 87 pickup not getting gas
All very good suggestions above
I would get under the truck and disconnect the fuel line going to the fuel filter or after the fuel filter, then connect a hose to it. Have some one crank while you hold the hose so that it will drain to a bucket or gas can. This verifies that you are getting fuel out of the tank.... dual tanks??? |

Re: 87 pickup not getting gas
single tanks. just tinkered with it alittle and could hear something buzzing and figured out it was the fuel pump so i unscrewed the gas lid and listened in and can hear the gas being pumped inside so i guess the little peice of hose connecting the pump and sending unit is bad.right?
hows the best way to fix it? thought i would just take the bed off like i do s10s but looks like the sending unit is half way under the cab to so taking bad off wont help i dont think?
