steering column help
Are the steering columns in a 78 differant than ones in a 79?
I pulled the tilt column out of my 79 parts blazer before scrapping it and as i started to pull the one out of my 78 it seems they are differnt on the end. The 78 has a slip yoke design and the 79 just had a bolt. Am i not seeing things right?

If one is a tilt and the other not, that would be a cause for difference within it... Can you be a bit more descriptive about where you are seeing the difference?

That's strange indeed. When I swapped over my columsn only thing different was the rubber gasket at the firewall. I did a direct swap over on the steering shaft from one column to the other.

it is differant at the end of the steering column where it connects to the steering rod that goes down to the steering box.

Ah, so instead of having four torx bolts to connect to the column shaft, it has something else? You sure that they are both tilt? That does make a difference...

Shouldn't matter on the regular versus tilt at the steering box. Does the steering box have a rag joint on it? I'm thinking it doesn't. Of not you need to get one. It's the thing ZiDigi is talking about. It's the item that goes between the gear box and column which bolts onto the gear box tip. You just swap these over. If you need a new one then you need to go to a dealer. I tried using the HELP! section one and didn't fit.

The tilt column has a totally different shaft than the standard non-tilt, you'll need to change out the entire shaft, it should fit in the same basic way at the standard column, and all the bolts and such should line up. If you can, take some pictures of your problem spot, then email them to me, I can post them here, or maybe help you myself.
