Gas pedal?? WTH??

84 c10, changed the cable, has one little spring carb linkage is fine. I unhooked it from the carb and is really stiff at the pedal itself. When i try and push it down it almost feels like its catching where it is mounted to the firewall? Any ideas? Can I take the pedal assembly apart to check or clean or lube maybe?

once hapend to me but it was on a tbi, the cable wasnt hooked on the right pin, maybe you have a second place to hook it on the carb.

With cable unhooked, it still is hard to push. Something in the pedal assembly is sticking. The assembly that bolts to the firewall. Take it apart in the morning I guess!

Re: Gas pedal?? WTH??

mine is stiff too, makes it hard to apply light throttle, I think the cable is just shot. I bought a replacement which broke when I went to install it so the 37 year old original went back on.

You are correct, ever since i swapped to an edelbrock my throttle cable was forced to bend alot to fit the new brackets, which in turn made the pedal much stiffer, but i just think of it as another way to remember to be easy on the throttle. since we all know how the mileage is on these trucks haha

Re: Gas pedal?? WTH??

Let me try this again...... The cable is unhooked from the carb and is still stiff also has brand new cable. Pulled the pedal assembly off the firewall and looks like nothing wrong but when its attached to the firewall for some weird reason its still and maybe a 1/4th pressed it feels like its got a "pop" in it. Hard to explain. Looks like Im goina find a new pedal assembly.

Re: Gas pedal?? WTH??

I bought a new cable from LMC and it did the same thing...after a couple days I couldn't even push it...cable was junk from them. Bought one from GM and problem gone. It's the cable assembly itself...at least on my pickup it was.

Re: Gas pedal?? WTH??

@mcnutty you say the cable is unhooked from the carb but when you push the pedal down you will still be pushing the cable. Been a long time since ive worked on mine but can you unhook cable from the pedal and try that. I think these guys are right about the cable. Almost every square ive been in has a hard pedal.

Re: Gas pedal?? WTH??

mine is actually pretty soft I think I recall seeing a receipt that the police had it replaced about 5 years ago. they oiled it according to the work notes.
