fuel guage
my fuel guage reads 1/4 full when its close to empty and about 3/8 when its totally full. whats the problem? im gonna try taking the tank down and seein what i can clean and fix for little money. that darn haynes book aint worth the paper its printed on cause it doesnt go over the fuel stuff that much. can anyone help me?

Probally just need to recalibrate the fuel gauge, how? Don't ask me!

Fire,
A sender which has no ground will read over full. So if yours isn't reading high enough, it probably would NOT be a ground problem. May be a bad sender unit? Brian |

might as well check ground anyways. mine read 1/4 over F for a few days. then went back to normal. then eventually it read E for empty but 3/8s for full.

hi man
when i first got my truck i had troubles with the gauges.
take out the gauges. take some sandpaper and stick in the contacts where the gauge posts go. that will get a good contact on the gauges. second remove the plastic gauge holder, pull out the big plug on the circuit board and clean all the contacts with a pencil eraser. dab a little bit of elecrical grease on it. if that dont fix it. you got a bad sender. |

I had the same problem with my '67. I found that the float had developed a small crack allowing gas to enter. This made the float arm too heavy to rise to the full mark. I replaced that and it works fine now.
