Re: true duals vs single in dual out muffler
Why bother? Save up for some good exhaust IMHO. Couldn't recommend a single flowmaster ever

Re: true duals vs single in dual out muffler
i wouldnt go with flowmaster anything, they dont flow well and they make your truck soud like a boat, or chewy. you could always keep it a single and do a glass pack. that wil lessen back pressure and they are cheap

Re: true duals vs single in dual out muffler
Dyno max also has a dual system for $132 on summit. Add mufflers and your done. Two flobastards cost about that much

Re: true duals vs single in dual out muffler
Isn't that the kit that exits before the rear wheels though? I want duals too, but I want then to exit out the side behind the wheels.

Re: true duals vs single in dual out muffler
My muffler fell off awhile ago and I drove like that for awhile. Sounds good but it would kill my head on long drives. Being broke I just put a flow 40 and pipe out. Its sounds good, but I plan on duals in the future. Save up for true duals it'll be worth the wait. As for muffler get what you like, I like flow 40s they have a nice throaty tone.

"This single exhaust sounds so much better than duals"
...said no one ever.

Re: true duals vs single in dual out muffler
L6 owners may argue with that but on a v8, duals are good

Re: true duals vs single in dual out muffler
If this is a temporary solution I would just replace your turbo muffler with a Flowmaster and leave it at that. That will at least keep you happy in the sound department and will cost the least money until you upgrade the entire system.

Re: true duals vs single in dual out muffler
If I had to choose between "true duals" with no H or X pipe and single exhaust with a good flowing muffler, I would choose the latter. At least then you will still get good scavenging, and if price is an issue for you right now I think that is your best option.

Re: true duals vs single in dual out muffler
save up for true duals. It's worth it. Sounds 10x better than a split muffler. Go with whatever you like the sound of, but I love my flowmasters.

Re: true duals vs single in dual out muffler
Sounds are subjective and it really comes down to personal taste.
As far as performance goes, on mild engines the single inlet/dual outlet design gets the job done. Was factory equipment on 3rd and 4th gen Fbodies, and most of your aftermarket systems are also done this way, which easily support many 10 and 11 second Fbodies. Generally the intermediate (single) pipe should be at least 3" with a very good "Y" pipe and merge collector, from there a muffler of your choice and 2 1/2" dual tailpipes will work. I've seen this setup support over 500 RWHP on the dyno regardless of muffler used. Of course a dual system may pickup some power, or in my case I increased the size of the "I" pipe to 4". Alot of these single systems sound very nice. My wifes 4th gen Fbody uses a 4" intermediate pipe and magnaflow muffler. As far as sound, you hear it coming, no one can honestly tell the difference if it's a dual or single system. Frankly it's a bit too loud for my taste. For a mild 350 in a pickup truck, I'd just use what suits you best with minimal cash outlay. |

True duels 2" straight out the back. I love it. Even o my 4 banger ranger id never run single pipe.

Re: true duals vs single in dual out muffler
i dont knwo how rangers are but my dad has/had 5 billion toyotas with 22r abd 22re's and the exhaust manifold has 2 exits. then you have two pipes that join together under the cab

It isn't a matter of being possible. It's the fact that it would rob a ton of performance from an already gutless engine. I have no idea whether it's a split manifold, but regardless a 4 cylinder with true duals would have to have less than 1" pipes to not lose power. A 2" dual system would kill the exhaust velocity.

Re: true duals vs single in dual out muffler
$20 glass pack, cut, zap it in, drive it until you redoe the exhaust. 20 bucks, 20 minutes, twice the CFM
