Keep draging stuff home. Old scope
Never heard of an Allen scope. Now I have one.
I was hoping it was a Sun. Have to power it up and see if it works.

I have no idea what that thing is, but it would look cool as beans in my garage...

Re: Keep draging stuff home. Old scope
Have to admit that when I first saw it I was unhappy because the guy I got it from lead me to think it was a Sun cabinet like in this pic.
But after looking it over I think its pretty dang cool. Not sure of my plan. Got a few options, . Rip the scope off it and use the base for a work station like my Sun. . Use it as shop art, really question if I have room for it that way. . Use it for tuning like its meant for. (room still an issue) For now I'll find a spot for it and think it over. Thanks for the reply's!

Re: Keep draging stuff home. Old scope
While Im like you and think its pretty cool. Its probably not going to be used, and it takes up precious shop room. So what I think you should do is re-purpose it in some way that it keeps the outside look, but is a useful item for your shop.
I have an early 60's late 50's record player put away right now. My plan is to someday cut it down so it will fit on the shelf where my Sirius "boom box" is. I'm going to carefully take apart the Sirius and put the guts in the record player. And hopefully not destroy both in the process lol.

Re: Keep draging stuff home. Old scope
I'm trying real hard to keep it simple. Sun machine, as cool as it was, just went away. $250.00 in my pocket and more room in the shop.
He says he needs it for his 66 Ferrari with 2 distributors. "Whatever get it out of my shop!"

Shop art. The base will lose its "Allenyzer" ID and become a base for my mini lathe. The nasty green paint come off the trim easy enough and its in good shape. After I fix the dents (IF I fix the dents) it'll get painted and a hardwood top. Tooling and gear change can stay inside cabinet. Somewhat dust free. We'll that's the plan.

Re: Keep draging stuff home. Old scope
Not a huge fan of Rat Rods but I am thinking about skipping the smooth and repaint. Sand it some more and WD40 that sucker.
I'm half serious.

Re: Keep draging stuff home. Old scope
For now. Rat cabinet.
Just no time to straighten, prep and paint this thing. Need to add a top to bolt lathe to. It isn't pretty but it will work.

This reminds me of this one I picked up at Hershey last year for around $50. I love the look and character of these things

Re: Keep draging stuff home. Old scope
It definitely looks like it is from a sci-fi movie. I'm torn on whether to restore it and make it work or leave it as-is

That's because this is the kind of technology they used in/to make those Sci-fi flicks. You must recall this type of equipment was revolutionary not to many decades ago…. |
