Re: need some info on lowering

Are they drop leafs or did someone just remove a bunch? If they are just removed I would start by putting the correct number of leafs in.

Re: need some info on lowering

best bet, I'm looking to do a 3/5 myself, as far as brands there's western chassis, belltech, and 1 other brand that I can't remember off the top of my head.

Most everyone goes with western chassis or belltech 2 very good quality brands. if you just have leaf springs in the back do a flip kit in the rear, and for the front just depends on what you want to do most people will do a 2" drop spindle and 1" drop spring. Hope it helps you out.

I don't have my truck dropped just yet but from what I hear most people will tell you to stay away from DJM, most guys will say Belltech, Western Chassis, or McGaughy's are 3 of the best to buy, everyone will have there own opinion though.

Re: need some info on lowering

For a daily driver,in the front I'd use drop spindles, probably a 2 inch spindle, and shackles and hangers in the rear. That should give you about a 4/5 drop.
I have Belltech spindles, they seem pretty well built.
Anything from Belltech and Mgaughys is going to be good, I have no experience with Western Chassis, so I can't say.

If it were me, I'd add the correct number of springs in the rear first, because you wont be able to hardly put anything in the bed. Unless you are going to be using helper bags in the rear. In that case, you're fine how you are now.

What is the correct number of springs? Not trying to hi-jack. This may be useful to the OP as well as myself.

It just depends on the truck, I know for my 77 I have a total 4 leafs on each side totaling in 8 when combined so does my friends 76.

How are the roads in your area? Bad roads = nor much drop. Smoother the roads = the more drop you aan use on a daily driver. Not to mention....How much towing or carrying of heavy loads do you do? The less you carry means the lower you can go without having to do extra work (like a frame notch for rear axle clearance)/buy extra stuff (like air helper springs).

the roads are not bad. normal roads, yeah you have your dips here and there. i just don't want to go to low. but still have a nice clean look.

The trailer's tongue weight will still affect the "droop" of the suspension.
From what I can tell, the stock 2wd 1/2 ton comes in either 4 or 5 springs.

Unless you're carring feathers, if you want to use the truck at all like a truck, id suggest increasing number of springs.

In my honest opinion given what your going to be doing I know it might be hard but I would say hold off on dropping it for now, wait to put the 20's on there cause when you put the 20's you could do a static drop and be fine. I met a boardmember on here named DaddyO he hasa static drop on his and he uses his truck to do errands haul stuff simple truck duties. Again though its my advice not saying you have to listen but I'd hate for you to drop it and then mess up your truck you know?

I'd go with McGaughy's 4.5 / 6 kit. Very good quality set up plus it will work nicely with the 20;s you have planned. I'll have the same set up in my 81 when the time comes.
