S10 Frame options

Ive searched around and wondering what year and type of s10 frame to look for for a 49 chevy build. I would like to lower it and run an ls engine. I have a 96 standard cab short bed truck that i could get but from what i found it needs to be a long bed to work. Thanks for any info

Re: S10 Frame options

long box will be closer to the half ton trucks wheel base. but I have seen them on short box frames, just cut down the bed. they look short and fat, but bad ass at the same time. Up to 94 they used round steering column if you are gonna use all you can from the truck. As far as frames go they are very close to the same over the years.

Re: S10 Frame options

If your good at welding, any s10 frame can modified easily to work. A short bed frame can be cut under the cab and lengthened, an extended cab frame can be cut down and shortened under the cab. The long bed is nicest one to run if you can find one since the wheel base is only off by an inch when you center the wheels.

Re: S10 Frame options

So I measured the s10 today and it looks like 108 wheelbase and the 49 has a wheelbase of 121. How much would be to much to safely extend a frame??

You'd probably be better off finding a different s10. How much you can safely extend it depends on what your welding skills are and how you approach it.

Here's a long bed 49 on a 1995 extended cab s10 frame, build thread is in my signature. Front of the bed was trimmed 2.375" to fit the s10 wheelbase.

Re: S10 Frame options

Guessing your truck is a long bed then? You be better off to find an ext cab frame since they have a 122" wheelbase which is easily adjusted with a couple simple mods.

Check my build (in sig.) I used a long bed reg cab frame. I was pretty detailed with measurements and such. Should give you a good starting point
