Project Whitey II - the "I wish I'd never sold it" build
The picture in my avatar is an '87 I had a few years back. I bought it from the original owner with 62K original miles and it was like new. I did a 4.5/5.5 static drop and drove it. One day I made the mistake of selling it. Ever since I've wished I had it back.
Fast forward to about a year ago. I was looking on craigslist and she jumped right out at me. The story was the guy I talked to bought the truck new in Texas and drove it for several years. His dad liked the truck. He sold it to his dad here in North Carolina back in the mid 90's. His dad had recently passed and he was helping him mom settle his estate. They decided not to keep the truck. Lucky me! After a few minutes of haggling she was on the road headed to my house!

I didn't waste any time buying her new shoes. They are Boss 338 with Nitto 555's.

Next was the chore of getting her attitude right. First picture is of rear flip done. Second is with the new spindles and springs done in the front, along with the suspension rebuilt. New steering components also.

Re: Project Whitey II - the "I wish I'd never sold it" build
Next on the docket was new power. I decided on a late modle LS series engine with 4l60e trans. Found an all aluminum L33 and trans on Ebay. The seller had a lot of good feedback. I put the purchase and it was on it's way. Got here, started pulling it apart for clean up and something told me I needed to try to spin it over. Hooked up a hot battery and remote start switch........ BANG 1/4 of a turn and locked up tight as a drum. Started pulling plugs out. You'll see below what I found - RUST and water! They came and picked up the engine and provided a full refund. I was BUMMED!

Re: Project Whitey II - the "I wish I'd never sold it" build
So I decided to do something I was a little more comfortable with. So started the Stealth Ram injected 383. It started with a late model 4 bolt main block. Bought a nice balanced rotating assembly and LT4 hot cam. Next came a set of Bowtie vortec heads. Then I got a stealth ram and did quite a bit of porting to it, and a BBK throttle body. New 30lb injectors should work nicely.

Nice truck! What inch drop is that in front? Anything other than the flip done in the back?

Thanks. Yes just the flip in the back and 2.5 spindles with 2 inch springs in the front.

I like the cut of yer' jib! This is my current DD. I used a picture of your old truck, lowered to photoshop some wheels.

Re: Project Whitey II - the "I wish I'd never sold it" build
I bought an aluminum fuel filler door from Jegs. I cut the hole and brought the lower ribs up to meet the high ones for a level surface. I had to trim one of the lower cross braces to clear the sending unit in the tank. Other than that it was all pretty easy. Here are a couple of pics.

Re: Project Whitey II - the "I wish I'd never sold it" build
One of the parts of reassembly I was dreading was the vent window/new seals/window regulator/window install in the doors. I'm proud to say both sides are done and not even one scratch in the new paint!

Re: Project Whitey II - the "I wish I'd never sold it" build
Here's a picture of the completed engine compartment. Still some tidying up to do, and definitely a good wash. Lots of dust from the paint shop. I'm also going to change my air inlet setup. I'm going to duct it across and under the battery to get cool air coming through core support.
