Chrome powder coat on tailgate band???
I know a guy that does quality powder coating at reasonable prices. I've seen some parts he's done with chrome powder coat, and they look like polished aluminum to me. Has anyone here ever done their aluminum tailgate band with chrome powder coat? I'm having a hard time figuring out what to do with mine. It is straight, but just looks crusty and there is no polishing it....I've tried.
I think if you did this, painted the black stripe back in it, and maybe powder coated the "Chevrolet" emblem black...it might look nice? Any thoughts??? Thanks, Mike

Re: Chrome powder coat on tailgate band???
It's anodized. Tak it to a player and they should be able to take of the anodized clear. You then should be able to polish it

Re: Chrome powder coat on tailgate band???
I had both my bumpers, bumper bolt, door handles, cab trim, and grille all powder coated gloss black. Everything on the outside of the truck that was shiney is now gloss black. I work at a Harley Davidson dealership and we powder coat lots of bike parts on a regular basis. It is very durable and looks great if you get somebody who knows what they are doing. That is the key. Make sure this guy is baking your parts in his mom's oven if you know what i mean. As much powder coating that we do at the shop i have never heard of chrome powder coating. If you do get it done in chrome please post some pics i would love to see what it looks like.

Re: Chrome powder coat on tailgate band???
So wouldn't it cost about the same to just do chrome?

I get motorcycle parts chromed often for restorations I do. As an example, a kickstart lever runs about 40 dollars. A pair of normal low rise handlebars about 80 dollars. You can easily pay 400 dollars for a front bumper on one of these trucks for chrome, maybe 100 for powder. Posted via Mobile Device |

Powder coating engine accessories? Does it hold up to the heat? Brackets maybe, but what about like headers?

Re: Chrome powder coat on tailgate band???
I've powder coated blocks and heads and all the various external parts of engines many times. Headers and exhaust manifolds do get too hot though so you'll need to ceramic coat them. No biggie though. Most powder coat shops can do that too.

Re: Chrome powder coat on tailgate band???
They do have a high temp powder coating now,Its rated at 1200 degrees f but i haven't used it yet to see if that's true.Basicly anything that's not plastic can be powder coated and if its done right its gonna be there for life.

Re: Chrome powder coat on tailgate band???
A friend of mine gets his race car wheels coated in "Chrome", but as TX Firefighter said, it looks more like the Jet Hot header coating. My buddy's wheels hold up very well, the coating outlasts the wheels. Anyway, the "chrome" looks good but if you're expecting bumper like chrome you'll be disappointed.
