Operation Suspension Rebuild!
I got my '86 GMC Shorty with a 5/6 drop a few months ago and just a few weeks after bombing around in it, I snapped the lower ball joint on the drivers side...Thank god it was right in front of my house as I was parking! So long story short I am beginning the process of going through the front end a little at a time...
Im starting out with all Moog stuff and I also have to replace the lower control arms too (the previous owners got to happy with the cut off wheel clearancing the arm for the lower wheel rub with the 15x8 rally's and what they missed with that they let the wheel grind off the rest) so the arm has a crack by the ball joint, so if the joint wouldn't have failed the arm would have anyway... So I really just wanted to show my progress and plight with you all as now that I can tell its going to be a long project full of suprises to repair things the right way... hope you enjoy Also I have a huge hole egged in the frame from the upper shock mount that Ill show in a pic can you guy's tell me a really good way to repair that? |

Re: Operation Suspension Rebuild!
You can weld in some grade 8 washers from both side and get the factory shock brace to help support things

Re: Operation Suspension Rebuild!
I would plate that hole first, then weld some washers front and back of the mount.

Re: Operation Suspension Rebuild!
Just be sure when you weld you put short welds in. If you lay a bunch of heat in one place it'll have a tendency to warp. But really no biggie. Just weld on the right side a little then weld in the left side a little then weld at the top then a little at the bottom....then repeat until its seam welded in.

Re: Operation Suspension Rebuild!
I wouldn't mind some heat. I tack em in hot on four sides then lay heat on opposite sides

Re: Operation Suspension Rebuild!
Some of the vendors make a bolt-in upper shock mount.
