4L60E Torque converter ?'S
Ok my engine wouldn't start until I disconnected the flywheel from the converter......dropped the trans and converter won't make a full turn with out binding and then unturnable? I don't think it's the trans because outter shaft spends fine without converter connected. 6.0 and trans was purchased from a salvage yard and has been sitting for about seven years till recently. I was told engine and trans came out of a 2004 chevy truck. If it is the stall any recommendations for new one?

Your converter may not be fully seated in the pump.

Sounds like the front pump is broken.
Those are the same symptoms mine had and it was the front pump. Here's a pic of the pump and it's insides. There's not a lot of moving parts inside it. They're easy to break if the torque converter is left attached to the flex plate when separating the trans and engine. I had mine rebuilt with a 13 vane pump. Kim |

Re: 4L60E Torque converter ?'S
They re-built my pump for $100.00. A re-manufactured one would have been twice that because it included a new stator.
While I have it apart for the pump I'm putting in a shift kit and aluminum pistons in the actuators. I guess the plastic ones have been a problem in some transmissions. Kim |

I stopped by a couple of trans shops today and one shop wanted 1,280 to rebuild entire trans and other shop wanted 150 just to replace pump and 3rd shop wanted 400 to install used pump and go over everthing else?

My pump is all new inside and I did upgrade the pistons which I would recommend. It all comes down to how confident you are in the rest of the trans being in good shape as to which way will be best for you. I'm taking a chance on mine being good. The fluid didn't smell burned although it was a little discolored. Good luck with it. Kim |

It has parts for the valve body and pump (mainly springs) and detailed instructions on what to do. There are some changes made to the separator plate also (enlarging some holes that they supply the drills for). Says "This is not a do it yourself kit" but I never let that stop me. The instructions are very complete and I think it can be done by some one with mechanical ability. They also have a tech line that is pretty good. The kit was just over $50.00 It's supposed to make the shifts shorter and cure some of the factory problems with these transmissions. Kim |
