New to the forum, NW Washington

Hi there,

I've been working on my truck on and off for a year now and have been pretty much just shooting from the hip. I found this place by googling "1948 S-10" a few weeks back looking to see how different people have done the swap to the s-10 frame. Google gave me a link to Shannon's '48 build and I've been hanging around here ever since.

Anyways, a little about me and my truck. I'm 26, and after 6 years in the navy I decided it was time to get out and build a hot rod, so I picked up an AD. Not really sure what year the cabs I have are, the west side of Washington is not nice to sheet metal over the years, so I have 3 of them I've been playing with. The title I have says 1950, so that's what it will end up being as far as the books are concerned.

The plan is to have it be my DD, so while I would like it to be pretty and all, function over form is most important. I'll start a build thread once I've figured out how to do that, but for now I'm just saying hello and continuing to try to get this beast on the road.

BTW, I get married July 6th, and we would like to leave the wedding in the truck, so I can use all the motivation you guys and gals can dish out!

Welcome Ryan! I've only been here a few weeks and these guys and gals are full of great knowledge! Although we don't have the year of truck in common, we have one thing that binds us as family. I was also in the navy! So again welcome to the forum and good luck!

First off.........Welcome and Thank You for your service! I am a young military veteran myself. My wedding is July 20th in Snohomish, WA. and right now I am working toward having my 57' Chev ready to drive by July. Looks like we have some common ground I'd say! haha I currently work for the Department of the Navy and find myself visiting the Everett area occasionally. Always happy to help out or talk trucks. Lookin good NW Task Force. I don't think mine will be quite as complete as yours for the wedding, probably be rolling in epoxy primer and borrowed mags, but I'm pretty confident it will be fully functional and still visually pleasing in time.

I gotta tell you though, I blamed you when the fiance comes asking why I needed a bead roller a few weeks back. I showed her some picks of the paneled floors you build and explained that I need to get to that level. She just looked at me like I was crazy.

RedneckRodder, HAHA, that is funny. Hey you have to blame someone. That is one of my favorite tools and I love doing the paneling. And trust me, that will not be the only reason she will look at you crazy during your build / life. Mine does it all the time!

We finished installing new floor pans and toe boards last weekend, and mated the new tranny tunnel to match properly. This week I've been filling most of the holes in the dash that I won't be using and finishing grinding all the welds that I left to cool and forgot about. This weekend the plan is to build the brake system. Not much left to do before installing the engine and wiring everything up.

Here's a peak at the passenger side floor and toe boards with the tranny tunnel. Driver's side is completed, but I didn't take any pics of the whole thing yet.

I didn't take the time to make the panels perfect with proper flanges and all due to the fact that this cab will be coming off in less than a year. Plan is to build the truck using this cab, then move back to the 6" chopped cab I have out in the barn after its all finished. Then this cab will be mounted to a 4x4 frame and turned into a flatbed wheelin' rig.

I spent a lot of time walking around the Puyallup fairgrounds last year looking for the parts to buy to start this project right. The bed came from an original Nevada truck, so not only is it rust free, its also the straightest original I've ever seen in person. I also bought running boards from that same truck, they had already been blasted and primed. Played $300 for all that and walked away smiling

Yeah, I always take the Cummins and pull a trailer with, just in case. A lot of people don't want to take those bigger items home with them.
