HELP! Please, motor mount madness

I'm lost about what motor/ trans mounts to use. I have a 64 lwb. Took out the I6/ power glide to swap for 350/ th350 out of a 78 GMC. I have all motor mounts for both motors what do I need to make it work? Thanks for all the insite and info.

Re: HELP! Please, motor mount madness

I put mounts for a small block (283, 327, 350, etc...) from the parts store for my year. Just told em I had a 66 with a 283. All the small block motor mounts, sizes are the same. Take yours to the store, ask em for what I did, if they are the same then you're good.

Re: HELP! Please, motor mount madness

I tried auto zone and got some for a 72 with the v8 and the problem is the I6 perches/ v8 rubber mounts hit the stock cast headers when out of the truck as I bolt them up...? A I missing something??

Re: HELP! Please, motor mount madness

All '63-'72 truck I6 and small blocks use the same motor mount. It seems odd to me that there would be any interference at all between the motor mounts and the exhaust manifolds. Are you using the '78 manifolds? Some pics would definitely help.

Re: HELP! Please, motor mount madness

what I6 did you have in there. the 292 was the oddball for the r/side engine perch. if you had a 230-250 eng you will be fine

It definitely sounds like he's using the manifolds off his 78 model engine.

To the O.P....

You can convert over to the 73-87 style mounts and stands and use the 73-87 manifolds which drop down low. Or, you can use the factory 63-66 engine stands and mounts and get some ramshorn or other exhaust manifold that doesn't swoop down so low.

Re: HELP! Please, motor mount madness

hope you saved the rear trans crossmember off the 78, you will have to bust the rivets, or just cut off the original mid trand mount. the trans crossmember from the 78 should fit in, just drill a few holes to bolt it down, you might also have to remove the emergency brake crossmember from the 64 for clearance too... since you are running auto , you don't really need it, or you can switch to a 66 style for trans clearance.

Re: HELP! Please, motor mount madness

Those exhaust manifolds will not work with the motor mounts and stands desined for these trucks. As mentioned earlier, you will need the ram horn style manifolds or a set of headers for these trucks. CaptainFab has several part numbers for the ones that actually fit.

Re: HELP! Please, motor mount madness

You can use the stock 2 speed tranny crossmember on the Th350. You can even use the same tranny mount to mount it up. I used a stock 66 powerglide tranny mount for my 700R4.
