looking for a good reliable carb

i have a 83 c10 RWD with 350 and i drive it often an was wondering whats a reliable an easy to tune carb to get thats less than $450 with an electric choke. i currently have a 600cfm edelbrock performer carb. an there are so many brands[demon, edelbrock, holly, proform, and quickfuel]

Q-jet if you have a performance carb guy. I use PC carb in Ontario Ca. To me they are the best by a long shot.

Holley or any of the clones because just about anyone can tune them.

Pick one, unless yours is seriously fubar, fixing and tuning of the one you have should run far less than the 450.00.

Carbs are kinda like underwear, everyone has a preference.

I have Holley 675 Street Avengers on 2 of my trucks, both with electric choke, both have been trouble free since purchase (3 years). Keep in mind today's fuel sucks, add stabilizer to your fuel or any carb will act up.

get a Quadrajet, many places to get them cheap remanufactured online for 200-250.00. get one for your year/make and it should come jetted the way it is supposed to when you get it. get it with electric choke, the only tuning you may have to do is adjust the choke pull-off slightly...but it will be trouble free for years

that's pretty pricey for a Quad imo...
if you're good with tools etc. a good Quad core + a 80.00 rebuild kit from Cliff Ruggles ( http://cliffshighperformance.com/carbkits.html )is probably the most cost effective, ( a good rebuild process here http://www.vetteprojects.com/kstyer/quadrajet.htm )
or one of the reman'd companies on the net such as:

What's wrong with what you got? Those carter afbs (that's what it is) are really just bullet proof. They are kinda Stone Age simple but that's the strong point.

I agree with everyone above Just pick one and learn everything you can about it. Quadrajets and even Thermoquads (if you can find one that doesn't have a warped body) or the vacuum secondary Holleys (but not the spreadbore Holleys)will likely be more friendly in daily driving and you can "overcarb" the truck without affecting actual performance or mileage. I got 17MPG all day long using my AFB-topped 360-powered 54 Plymouth driving delivery during my first time around in college. The 83 should have come from the factory with an "electric feedback" Q-Jet, you may be able to find a similar one without the electronics in Cadillacs or on Craigslist...Edelbrock also made some Q-Jets after Rochester stopped and three of the models should be just fine for ya.
