Walker 48111 Exhaust pipe

This pipe is listed for the 230 I6, 127" wheelbase on the 1965 C10.

Is this the same pipe (manifold to muffler)/useable as is for the short bed step sides?

Thought I'd fab up a new exhaust for my 65 SBSS w/o going to the high dollar kits or shops as I already have the tail pipe and a good muffler.

Cannot answer your ???, but chances are good a muffler shop would be cheaper.

Re: Walker 48111 Exhaust pipe

Well, I have the tail pipe. A glass pack is 30 and the front pipe is 75. Figure 20 for hangers and clamps/gasket.

I don't know of anyone here that can bend one for 150.

Besides, its fun to DIY.

This is listed only for long beds 127" wheelbase trucks with 230 or 250 motors.

Right,. Thats my question....trimmable for 115" short beds with 230 or 250 motor? I can order an entire system for shortbed from waldrons or have the local goofs bend one up, hopefully correctly, but walker make good stuff and I thought.........DIY

I supplied the magnaflow muffler and my local shop charged $115.00 for all new alumanized 2 1/4 pipe and new studs in the manifold. and they bent it according to the original pictures I gave them

Might be worth checking into

Re: Walker 48111 Exhaust pipe

If I remember correctly you would have to take 12" out of the middle to make it work.

Re: Walker 48111 Exhaust pipe

Thats dooable with a coupler and either clamps or better I can break out my old welder to make it solid. It may just have to happen as a DIY then. There seems to be no source for the short bed head pipe other than Waldrons and his price is $327 for a full aluminized system if I want all the clamps/gasket/hangers.

I should be able to completly replumb my 230 exhaust from the manifold back useing a nice glasspack for under $175 and keep all the cash in my local economy.

I've got the same pipe on order. Great minds think alike!! I think I'm gonna run a porter muffler. I've been running a cherry bomb for a few years.

Re: Walker 48111 Exhaust pipe

I'm worryin myself....I wanna put on langdon fentons and I know the factory pipe will bolt to one header or the stock manifold...

Now just how much bendin is needed to mod another factory front pipe to fit up with the other header?

Chop them both off, add a y-adapter and run out thru a single thrush to the stock Drivers side tail pipe....

Some power, some sound, stock look.

Or just keep it stock...or keep it stock for now and add the fentons later or just do the fentons now or focus on the HEI and the alternater first or.

See, my brain is goin overtime! Think I'll just drive the old fella for a bit...couple days anyhow!

Re: Walker 48111 Exhaust pipe

I decided how to proceed. Email communications with iron header suppliers has been very disappointing. Seemingly little willingness to talk tech and no hard data to document HP/Torque increases in any form like how much, where in the curve, etc.... no info on placment of H/Y/X pipe for low end torque on a 6, muff size, etc, etc, etc.

So, I'm goin near stock on the exhaust. Order the walker pipe, gasket and a pipe coupler and a glasspack. I checked the flange bolts last night, loose and all the hanger clamps are almost new. I'll just trim the long bed walker pipe and use a coupler at the forward hanger location. I think I'll use an 18 or 20 inch glass pack for a mellower tone though.

I'll plan on picking up efficiencies like a monojet swap and hei swap and save the hot rod 6 for another project

sharps....get on inliners.org, those guys will be more help on the 6cyl mods. Also have a great 6cyl section here with plenty of guys who have done and are running the mods. They will be more help as they aren't trying to sell you anything. check out the thread "tricked out six cylinders"

Anybody ever paint the entire exhaust with hitemp black? How's it hold up?

The mids (cat back), mufflers, OTA pipes are painted with black BBQ paint on one of my cars. Still looks good.

Re: Walker 48111 Exhaust pipe

Cool thanks. BBQ paint,. "Thats funny, there. I dont' care who ya are."

Prolly a darn site less expensive for BBQ paint than High Temp car paint.

Prime it first or just degrease and scuff the pipes?

Sprayed with brake cleaner, they spray bomb. Would have use a Scotchbrite, but didn't have one.

Re: Walker 48111 Exhaust pipe

Never tried high temp paint but I shot my ramhorns with Rustoleum cold galvanizing compound and it doesn't burn off. Still looks silver after a year and lots of miles. It does scratch kind of easy though, but I just take care around them with tools.
