Fuel Tank Setup

Hey guys, I guess I should have posted this here to begin with, but does anyone see any problems with my fuel setup?

What are the dimensions of the tank itself?

I think it's 28-3/8" x 28-1/8" x 10-3/4" deep. It fits between the frame rails either way you turn it.

This probably isn't a life or death concern, or may not be a concern at all; the galvanized steel retains no rust protection once welded and the galvanized coating is worn back. I'd be a tiny bit concerned that you could run the risk of getting a little rust into the tank.

A little primer and paint on the outside of the weld will handle that, though I'm not sure about the INSIDE of the tank. Again, this is a miniscule issue, as a pre filter would take care of any particulate that would drop in...but I'm playing devils advocate. IMO theres a reason that fuel cells and aftermarket tanks are usually plastic or stainless.

As for the amount it hangs down, 9" is a bit much, but it depends on how low you plan on setting the ride height. On my 66, the fuel cell hangs down about 6-1/2". It's still well above the rear end at ride height, but still makes me nervous if driving on really uneven surfaces.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't think soldering would remove the galvanization? I intend to paint the exterior of the tank, but I was going to leave the inside as-is.

Be careful welding with galvanized metal. It releases a toxic gas so be sure you're well ventilated.

Eastwood makes a gas tank sealent I've used on a rusty tank and it sealed it up. I'm sure you could use it on a new tank.
