Project Farm Flip
Hey guys, this is one of my first posts here. I have a project I would like to get some feedback on before I dump to much money into it. Heres the specs.
60 gmc long bed texas farm truck. 305 v6 with 4 on the floor running good body in good shape for its age. misc bondo and body work done by previous owner (going for patina look) need two front fenders still, I may redo the rockers, and have some uppervisor work to be completed wirebrushed entire frame and POR15'ed no rust Por 15 underside of cab wood bed kit 6lug disk brake conversion on all 4 corrners lowered 5.5 in front and 5 in back 17x7.5 steelies with new tires Im at the point now where things can get expensive. Im looking to get a entire new wiring harness some of the wires are really frail new window glass, vent glass, and all rubber moldings misc lights and covers. Im not sure if blocking the truck and priming it would make it more valuable or a waste of my time? Im looking to see what this project would be worth if I continue with the upgrades. Im hoping about 9-11k please let me know if Im way off. like I said Im looking to sell this project. I know there is a whats it worth fourm.. but I dont have access to that fourm. If Im breaking any rules please let me know. I will upload some photos of the progress tomorrow. |

Based on your description, I'd say that range is a bit optimistic--know it would be in our area. Altho' it's difficult to really peg it in any area w/out pics of the finished project.

If you're building it to make money then you're flogging a dead horse.
Too many strikes against you to start with. 1. It's a long box. 2. A v6 that 's hard to get parts for. 3. A 4 speed. 4. Limited wheel choice being it's 6 lug. 5. A knee knocker cab. But it has a nice patina!! If it was a newer (65 to 66) rust free shortbox with a sbc and auto you might get 10 to 12 grand for it out here. A nice longbox can't be sold here for 6-7 grand. There's a local one that's been on the market 2 years now. Long box, nice paint, sbc, auto, tilt. Nice truck. I looked at it. At that time it was 10 grand. He's down to 7 grand now. There!! How's that for feedback!! |

x2 on the knee knockers and btw truck looks good but would only bring 6-7k around here

sorry but what is a knee knocker cab. what makes it a knee knocker? I guess thats what I needed to hear. I figured that the 6 and the 4 speed were kinda rare and be more valueable?
So you are saying put it back together with what I have and only buy the stuff I realy have to and ask about $7-9K ish |

Knee knocker cabs are on the 60-63 models with the roll around windshield. In 64 they changed the body style to flatten the windshield and straighten the line on the front of the door. If you put the truck back with what you have your probably looking at 4-5,000 and I think that is being generous. Even if you start changing wiring harness and other parts you would have to buy I think you'd be looking at 6,000 at best without a full restoration.

The rust near the W/S will hurt you my friend. That is hard to get it all and no one makes the repair panels. another cab would work. Also as far as flipping it, the fact that it is a 60-62 ( torsion bar suspension) will also limit your audience because it isnt as easy to get suspension parts as say a 63-72 suspension, also they arent as easy to drop it either( lower it). Folks need to know that just because a truck is from Texas that doesnt mean its rust free. It actually depends on WHERE in Texas it spent its time. E, S-SE, it will have rust ( because of the Gulf moisture) west is the best for dry climate and North is about where you get some rust but not too awful bad. Good luck!

I have the visior patch panel for the w/s issue, its not that bad. it looks worst than it is. But thanks for the warrning. We also installed a 71 pickup front end and got rid of the torsion bar setup for that very reason. I should have listed that...sorry. As for the location in Texas Im un sure of as well but the truck overall is in good shape for being 53 years old...

First, welcome neighbor. Hope things go well for you. Up here you might be able to get a few more dollars for the truck. I would recommend you check out Craigslist for northern IL and lower Wisconsin. I have seen project trucks that needed tons of work that they wanted over $5k for. There is a local body shop in DeKalb that wants $10k for a very rough early 50s chevy truck. I am not disagreeing at all with the guys that know much more than I do, it's just what I have seen around our area.
