Re: Fitting Sealant (Teflon Tape vs. Loctite)
I've used Teflon tape for various shop connections (air compressor line, attachments, etc.). Sometimes I have leaks sometimes I don't.
I've only used the Loctite 545 sealant a couple of times and I've had good luck with it as well.

Depends on application. I use teflon tape, thread locker, teflon paste, hi-tack, aviation, and rtv.

Just thought it would be nice for those with leaks in their air ride systems.
Just a typical electric air ride setup. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Fitting Sealant (Teflon Tape vs. Loctite)
I use liquid/paste sealant, maybe not 545 but others (permatex) make it as well. I haven't tried tape for this application though it may do just fine.

I've used Loctite 545 on a few trucks and it has worked great for me. However, it's expensive.

For the air fittings loctite. But agree the price is insane.

I used loctite 545 on mine, had some nasty leaks and it cured them.

I used Loctite 565, worked good, expensive too but a little tube goes a long way.

Re: Fitting Sealant (Teflon Tape vs. Loctite)
![]() Teflon tape doesn't seal, it works to condition the threads. It might seal, but that's not the job it was designed to do.

Re: Fitting Sealant (Teflon Tape vs. Loctite)
Jimmydean is correct. Teflon tape is not meant to be used as a seal. Its so your threads don't grind together (steel on steel) when tightening your joint or connection. It act's as a lube.

Re: Fitting Sealant (Teflon Tape vs. Loctite)
Used some Loctite 545 today to seal an oil line, but I usually use teflon tape. I was impressed with the job the 545 did though and will probably use it more often

Re: Fitting Sealant (Teflon Tape vs. Loctite)
I just use the Napa branded "Liquid Tef". Apply a thin layer, let it tack up, screw together and your good to go. Did my last couple air-related projects that way, and I use it on all my air tools.

Re: Fitting Sealant (Teflon Tape vs. Loctite)
I will admit it, I am the 1 teflon tape vote, I am such a looser! I guess I better go to the store get some 545 so I can expand my collection of Loctite products.

Re: Fitting Sealant (Teflon Tape vs. Loctite)
Go to any auto parts store and ask for it by name. They can get it for you. It is the recommended air fitting sealant for most manufactures. Mine was ordered from a NAPA I think.

Re: Fitting Sealant (Teflon Tape vs. Loctite)
My first go around I used Teflon tape, since the fittings already had it. Slow leaks. This last time I used 545 on the tape, and it rocks. It may be expensive, but I hate doing things twice.
