Can i use this trans crossmember?

Im getting ready to drop the engine and trans in my 66.Ive searched the other threads and every body uses the crossmember that bolts into the frame from inside on both sides.Mine just just has the bolts like this on one side then the other side bolts on the outside of the frame. Can I still use this?I also noticed on the frame there is some holes that look like they were there for the transmission if the truck had been an automatic.Did the factory put theses holes for an automatic? Can I use them or am I better off drlling my own holes?

I have never seen anything like that for a crossmember.

Re: Can i use this trans crossmember?

I looked at the CPP crossmember, but decided to build my own. I bought a 3' stick of 1.25 square tubing and some angle iron for the frame mounts and trans mount.

Cost me $30 for steel. I would just buy the CPP unit for $75 shipped off EBay if I lived in the States. Costs too much crossing the border

Re: Can i use this trans crossmember?

The one I have is the old stock one in the pic.I stole the pic from another thread.I think he modified it for 80's style square body.I guess this kind of crossmember was used in chevys low powered smog engines.Im putting a 305 in my 66.I just want to make shure im not wasting my time using this.I havnt seen any body else using this cross member on here on one of our trucks.

Re: Can i use this trans crossmember?

I used an ECE crossmember for my suburban, I would try to find a stock one or use a CPP or ECE one. The holes are in the frame for the auto already so you don't need to drill new holes.

I think i will end up doing that LT1 Burb. From what the square body guys say this crossmember weakens your frame and its hard to route your exhaust.

Re: Can i use this trans crossmember?

I used the stock automatic trans crossmembers in my trucks.
