DIY LED tail lights
I was picking up some new lights from a trailer got the idea for this. This is an easy up grade and cost maybe $40 all in.
PARTS 2- 3 3/4" LED round trailer lights 1- 2 part epoxy 2- weather pack connectors In the pic I have bullet connectors but that was just to test this out, I later wired it with weather packs from a 4 wire o2 sensor cut from a car at a local wrecker. I'll post pic's of the truck at night later. |

Re: DIY LED tail lights
If you look at a truck shop (big rigs) you can find lot of different lights used for trucks and trailers.

Re: DIY LED tail lights
Use your trailer LED as brake and tail and add a amber single element lamp in the backup light spot as a turn signal separate from the brake light.
Gives a modern look. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: DIY LED tail lights
This is the night shots, it was raining and this camera new to me so this is not the best pic's.
Running lights Brake lights The LED plate lights kind of take way from it, if it's not raining later I'll shot it again with the plate covered. |

Re: DIY LED tail lights
Once upon a time I had LEDs all around in my truck. Was hammered at a freinds one night and left the runners on. Thanks to LEDs I was able to start it in the morn
Later on I noticed my less were really crap compared to modern so I just put bulbs back in. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: DIY LED tail lights
Wonder if a set of LED ones for a jeep would fit inside? They are square...

Re: DIY LED tail lights
I was looking around for a set of lights for my boat trailer, and seen they had LED hitch receiver brake lights, it was a square light that looks like it fit the tail lights, just can't remember if it's a 3 wire hook-up.

Re: DIY LED tail lights
I love those PA led lights they light up the night spectactularily. Bought a couple extra sets after I did my initial conversion.
A tip, Until the design of the PA trailer lights changes anyway, if you get the ones with the license plate light, you have a strip of 5 extra leds that is screw mounted which you can either mount to the side for the running light, or rear mounted to the separator between the tail and reverse light and wire it to the brake light line for an extra amount of brake led's lighting up (which I did. I figure city traffic can use all the help it can to see me hit the brakes in the daylight). Alex. |
