traction- how to hook up?

I am trying to get some traction on a launch, until my truck hits second gear, in WOT, i just sit there and spin. i only have 2.73 gears in the rear. and 275mm wide rear tires... any ideas other than adding allot of weight to the back?

Re: traction- how to hook up?

you need something to control wrap. there are many options for that. drop shackles will give you more squat too

Re: traction- how to hook up?

Has anyone used these. I was thinking about them for my truck but not sure if they will work on a lowered truck.

Re: traction- how to hook up?

They make them for flip kit trucks yes. Those will help with squat angle and wrap up. People run tens easy with just those. Moving weight to the rear will help much as well. Moving the front spring eye up helps alot and not dumping the gas right away too. Wider tires or slicks will be a good idea too

Re: traction- how to hook up?

Gears, posi, shocks and tires are all part of the equation making trucks hook.
Then you will find all the other weak links in the drive train

Re: traction- how to hook up?

a big factor is what you have under the hood. to get the most traction from my truck (2.73 gears and mild HP 350) isnt goin to be the same as a 500HP truck with 3.73

Re: traction- how to hook up?

I use a custom set of traction bars on my 12 bolt. Better launch but with no weight, the ZZ4 just tears up tires.

Re: traction- how to hook up?

Right now those gears are your worst enemy. Swap the 2.73's for 3.73's or 4.10's.

Re: traction- how to hook up?

yes i have posi.... and swapping to 3.73 or 4.10 would make my problem worse- my torque would be increased to the wheels. i have too much spin as it is. i think im gunna go caltracs and put some fatter tires on her. thanks guys

Yes torque would increase to the wheels but the rate at which its applied is slower I guess you could say or longer over time. I had 2:73 gears and if I farted at the gas it lit my 295s up. Now with 373s I can go a lot more on the gas before they lite but if I floor it I can spun them as long and in any gear I like. If that makes any sense. The Caltracs will be a nice addition. A swaybar in the rear will help to mine torques to the right of my shoulder hardcore

If I had sticky tires, mine would hook up too.
The guy that made my traction bars drove them on a 87 SWB. It was powered by a 454 making over 550 HP. The truck with slicks just squatted, hooked, and launched hard down the track. Once my truck is ready for hardcore track running, I will slap on a set of slicks.

Re: traction- how to hook up?

I have a th350 as well. I'm turning about 3-3500rpm avg with 3:73 and 27in tall tires. Tops at 110 @6krpm by my speedometer. A 200r4 from ck or a 700r4 from patc will make them very livable though.

Re: traction- how to hook up?

All mine wanted to do was wheel hop with street tires.

In reference to Dylan I changed converter to 3500 ish stall. 3:82 gears cal tracs Hoosier drag radials.
Went from 2.20 to 1.67 60' at the strip.
And 13.50's to 12.20's all at 109-110 mph it can be done.
