a/c questions

Hey guys I am finally getting my 79 k10 on the road and I am wanting to get the a/c working again I was wondering how much Freon it is supposed to hold? I know it’s about 20% less that r12 it was originally on how many ounces of r134 would that be? , also what all is needed for the compressor to run? Is it more than just power and ground any other tips are greatly appreciated

Re: a/c questions

You need to a jump wire in the low pressure switch. The low pressure switch powers the high pressure and compressor switches. The switches run in series. If any trip, power is cut off to the compressor. Is the system stock? Is the compressor on the driver or passenger side? Ounces should be based on pressure. I'll have to look for a link that gives ~pressures based on ambient temperature. You can follow this square body conversion write up.

Re: a/c questions

3.25 lbs sounds like a lot to me. I think it's somewhere between 2-3 lbs. You live in a cooler climate so 2-3 should be about right. Mine has ~2.5 or so with a serpentine belt conversion. Compressor is on the passenger side. Are you using a stock condensor? Or are you upgrading to a correct crossflow R134 type?
