Dash Question
Please forgive my ignorance on this but I have not been able to find a picture that says what each is.
In the picture below I have labled some things. I am wondering what is supposed to be in there.....the ones that have something on my truck I have labled. 1: On my truck its a toggel to work the winshield wipers. What is supposed to be there? 2: On my truck its the lights. Is this correct? 3: On my truck there is a toggel that works the blinkers. What is supposed to be there? 4: Generator.....What does this mean? When the battery is going bad will this light up or do I have this all wrong? 5: What is this knob for? Dont appear to do anything on my truck. 6: What is supposed to be here? Thank you in advance for any help. I looked through the FAQ but could not find what I was looking for. |

Re: Dash Question
2 - Lights
3 - Wipers 5 - Choke (probably disconnected if you have later model engine w/electric choke) 6 - Cigarette Lighter The Gen light will come on when the battery is discharging (idling too low to run lights and heater, or bad alternator), if it's working correctly. |

If you want to go further, there is a great restoration thread for these old gauges and it will look new again. Instrument cluster restoration link. Here's mine. I did not need to use new gauge stickers.

Re: Dash Question
1. Nothing. An add on.
2. Correct 3. Normally nothing there. Another "fix". 4. Light should come on when you turn the key on before you start it. Will come on if your altenator quits charging. 5. Your original wiper switch. 6. Choke cable. A previous owner swapped in a different steering column and didn't know how to wire up your turn signals. I bet your horn doesn't work either. |

Thanks everyone. Not much on the inside of this truck works. Plenty of electrical work to be done. Just trying to figure out the way it was in 1965. What is supposed to be where and stuff like that. |

Re: Dash Question
They are correct. This post reminds me of the ticket in HS for not having a working horn. My fix was to add a toggle where your #1 is and hook up the horn. Made it easy to blow my horn for long periods and still keep both hands on the wheel.

Re: Dash Question
It probably took the previous owner longer to hack all this stuff together, than it would have to fix it right.

Re: Dash Question
You must bought that truck from Gerry.. I recognize some of his rigs there..
The best advise would be to at least rewire the cab and start from there.. Get all the correct switches and get it back to the way it was.

Re: Dash Question
Joes, my truck went under in Katrina while in the paint booth. When I decided to rebuild I wanted new wiring of course (no other choice) I went with E-Z wiring for $185 for 21 circuit. Everything is color coded and the wires are labeled every 12 inches. Can't be any simpler. Be glad to help you when you feel you want to get to that stage.
In the mean time we can put her back right a few wires at a time.

Re: Dash Question
here is the link. I also bought the dash gauges from them as well. I decided to upgrade the headlights with halogens, so if you do that you will need to either install the relays or order the wiring upgrade from LMC for 29.99 I chose that route because I was unsure how to use the relays correctly.
