Headlight adjustment

Hello all,

I have been running into problems trying to adjust the driver side headlight on my 84 c10. The top adjustment screw does not screw in, everytime I try it feels like it jumps a thread and the light ends up still facing down. I thought the screw and bracket was the problem so I changed them out but with the new screw and bracket it is still doing the same thing. Can anybody think of what can be causing this? I'm thinking it might be the spring at the bottom of the headlight.

Re: Headlight adjustment

Sounds like you need a new plastic insert.

Re: Headlight adjustment

Those aftermarket screw and plasticight a dusters are sketchy. I always took the screw out and put the original back in, that created a tighter fit. They do strip easily. I kinda smack them while adjusting to help move it so the spring doesn't just keep it in place and the screw won't strip the plastic so easy

Re: Headlight adjustment

Do not use the adjusters from autozone or advanced auto the are junk. Go to a parts house and see if you can get some of the white one's. The black one's are not any good. they will strip.Or try a auto paint store that sells some fasteners. They should have some good pieces.

Mine was doing the same as yours that is how I found out about the black one's.

Re: Headlight adjustment

I got the screw and plastic adjusters from summit, which are black, could that really be the reason for it not adjusting correctly?

Re: Headlight adjustment

That is where all your adjustment comes from. So if it feels like it is skipping a tooth then try like someone posted above and put the old screw in the new plastic and see if it bites harder. Also try pushing in on the screw a bit as you screw it in. That way it takes some of the stress off the plastic.

Re: Headlight adjustment

If your headlights are way out, feel free to persuade the headlight/socket with your hand. Don't try to pull it all out with the adjuster. Mine were broke for so long i pulled the headlight and physically moved the socket, the adjuster I used to hold it there and for fine tuning.

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.

Re: Headlight adjustment

how "way out' are they for the 4 bulbs
normally the low is on top of the high
in order to prevent putting the wrong bulb in the "basket" are notched
you would find it look cross eyed
but I found putting the low, low, is possible and seemed better
with the high on top too
simply push out the notch in the corner if needed or desired
and switch plug locations

i think this would look cool on a lowered truck
