trans cooler line exhaust clearance
Guys,
Trying to button up the 5.3/4l60e into my 71. Im using the trailerblazer manifolds. the stock lines (from a 04 tahoe 4l60e) are half an inch from the exhaust manifold. Is that enough clearance or should i take them out and bend them? What would be the minimum clearance? Also, i noticed that these lines do wobble just a bit when installed in the trans. They install with these little clips and just push on... Is that wobble normal? Do you guys have any play in yours? thanks guys! |

Re: trans cooler line exhaust clearance
I could not get the stock lines to work with the trail blazer manifold or my custom cross member, so i used russell pro classic hose and routed them inside the frame rail. I also made a heat shield where they go over the top of the exhaust. The factory clips suck and they will wobble a bit. The second picture is the fuel lines over the exhaust. I could not find a picture of the tranny line side, but i am sure you get the picture.

Re: trans cooler line exhaust clearance
I had the same issue with the stock cooler lines, so I got the trailblazer SS lines. they route differently to accomodate the SS manifolds.
wobble is normal, as long as it doesnt leak....

Re: trans cooler line exhaust clearance
I don't have the part numbers handy. I got them off ebay after getting the numbers from gmpartsdirect.com. I'll see if I can find the numbers...

Re: trans cooler line exhaust clearance
I ran braided lines tight to the pan and forward to my cooler under the rad. It has only a tiny but less clearance, but it avoids crossing over the exhaust at any point.

Re: trans cooler line exhaust clearance
You can buy some thermal heat sleves to cover the trans line... Summit sells them. You may be able to find some NASCAR/IMCA left overs on eBay too....
