the option's are endless for the 6.2L, with 424HP and 424ft-lbs torque in stock form.

LOL, pretty sure the 6.2L suggestion is not referring to the IDI diesel but rather the LS motor.
On that note, I would probably look into a Lingenfelter crate engine.

KEEP UP WITH? for how long? we talking 1/4 mile race here or cannon ball run? neck & neck or just be able to catch up and keep up?
anything other than a race down a drag strip, for dependability, i would stick with a 6.2, custom built 6 speed manual trans with uber tall final, a gear vender or something similar, and uber tall gears in the rear diff. might take you a week to get to speed but once there you could cruise at low R's with good economy and SOME pedal left. LOL but again who knows. everything depends upon criteria of how and when. JustBlowingSmokeIzzy

Chevy 350 and Big Block engines are probably one of the most commonly built and raced engines on the planet, so it's not the engine I'm worried about. It's the suspension and handling, how would you get your squarebody to corner like it's on rails?

For those who have asked, this thought came after watching bull run and all the racers with turn key cars, and I started wondering if one could build a square that would be just as fast and reliable as those $200000 sports cars and could handle as well and still keep up on a 3000 mile road race

Twin turbo ls7 type build. With a 200-4R trans and 373s. Vfn fiberglass hood and an aluminum front end. Lightened wherever possible with a tonnue and smoothed underside. One tank will hold race fuel and the other will hold pump gas. All I do is manually add boost and timing on my computer and switch gas tanks and run 700+hp then swap it again for 450 low hp good mileage. You don't need aerodynamics with pure power making the guy in the Lamborghini wondering wtf just happened

My original idea for my truck which is a 74 C20 was to turn it into a factory part monster.
C20 brakes are bigger, and with a 9.5 14 bolt with K20 rear brake conversion. It would stop fast enough, and cost 1/3 the price of a C10 big brake kit. The frame is thicker, and helps with keeping the suspension doing its job. Plus I will fully weld the joints for further stiffness. Move the suspension points like I said earlier, and learn to drive what you built. A good driver is more important then the car 1/2 the time. If you don't get used to your cars characteristics you never be able to push the limits. It won't have the finesse of a super car, but it will surprise you with what it can do. My wife says I can't have 2 slammed trucks so my C20 is becoming a Rally inspired build, but with all the suspension mods I can afford. Or dream up, and get close to what my vision entails. 20 some years ago I read about how NASCAR used to modify stock parts, and how homligation rules made certain tricks necessary. Which afterwards I never looked at large vehicles the same again. Big brakes for hauling weight now slow you down real fast. Its all about set-up. Also do research on what ever vehicle you are using as your performance target. You'll see most of the vehicles are not light weights, and while your truck will not be so light. You will only be about 10% heavier if you try, and pay attention. |

Alot of those are good ideas.. but he did say if money wasn't an option....
I would run the no limit engineering frame, or something similar, cage the entire thing from front to back to keep and frame twist down.. with a blown lsx built to my standards using an RHS race block.. running a supercharger of the sorts thats undecided, even though i am partial towards top mounts, (ineffeicient thought) I would build in a weight transfer in the frame so i could dial in cornering weights, not to mention to move the engine back about 6-8 inches. relocate as much as possible to the rear of the frame for a better weight distro. And of course wheels and tires to your liking, but keeping the tires around a 40 series so i have some sidewall to take in bad city streets.. Thats a good start.. |
