60-62 c10 rear tank conversion

I've checked the FAQ section and searched this topic, but I want to ask just in case I missed some great tech somewhere along the way.

Since most folks are running "later" open channel style frames (63 & up) and I'm working on a stock 62 C10 frame which is wider in the area of rear frame rails where the tank might be going.

I'm reaching out to those who have done this on the 60-62's with success.

I have a Brother's Rear Tank Conversion Kit and I've checked their on-site tutorial...

so you get the picture.

Can anyone help me out with more info / pics / links ???

Thank you - rg

Re: 60-62 c10 rear tank conversion

Tanks Inc. has a 'universal' steel tank that fits like a glove between the two rearmost frame crossmembers.I welded two pieces of 3/16" metal strips over the top of them for the tank topush up against w tank straps across the bottom. They also stock the correct ohm sending unit for using our factory fuel guage. I'm at work so I don't have the part numbers on hand.

Thanks BB

I have a rear tank conversion kit already - just need to figure out how to get it mounted on the truck.

I do appreciate the reply -

Re: 60-62 c10 rear tank conversion

My camera battery died... so pics are on hold.

I have set the truck up with 2 inch spacers under the bed floor raising it 2 inches to clear the differential in case it bottoms out.

With the rear tank mocked up in the truck I have @ 9 1/2 inches of ground clearance from the bottom of the tank to the ground.

Anyone else have a blazer style tank or rear tank that close or closer???

Tanks -

Re: 60-62 c10 rear tank conversion

Thanks I got the rear most cross member removed and mounted where I think it should be and started figuring out the straps for top.

I'm considering some spare underhood braces that I saved mounted across the top of the crossmembers and centered in the tank's top grooves or indentations.

Then the straps from kit underneath also across the crossmembers in the indentations on the bottom of the tank.

I'm trying to tuck it up into the space above the stock floor height from raising things 2 inches for as much ground clearance as I can get from this.

pics and update tomorrow - THANKS guys.

Brothers and thanks for the compliments.

LM65 - I haven't been doing too much to the truck lately between the weather and my schedule, but it's ready to go in when I'm done tinkering with rear brakes and e-brake cables.

Hope to get it wrapped up soon.
