Ole' GMC 450 Vin Decode
I stumbled across an old GMC 450 with a 302 in it. The owner says it is a '54, but it has a 2 piece front window. The vin is 454 30 10600. There might be something like an "F" or "E" in front, but I can't tell. Is it a '54 or could it be a '52/'53?

Re: Ole' GMC 450 Vin Decode
GMC back then didn't use model years they used model production runs so it could be a split window 54. The numbers look right for it for 52/53 the numbers are right if it has a Z at the beginning of the 10600 then its most likely a 54.
I see 454 30 10600 as a 1953 450 179" wb w/302 if it was 454 30 Z10600 then its a 54 |

There is definitely no "Z".

Could be a early 54 that GM used up some 53 cabs on. Truck users would not have cared and if they complained the dealer probably gave them a chicken dinner as compensation. Also some states required titling based on the year the truck was sold at the dealer not year of production.

This is absolutely possible as GMC was not year centered as Chevy was. |

So really there is no way to tell, nobody cared, so I shouldn't either?

It's not uncommon for the heavy truck division to lag behind the light trucks when it comes to changes. One example is the introduction of the new C/K line in '88. The heavy trucks kept the old style cabs until 92-ish.
