Fuel pump replace or not?
I have been running with a single tank on my 87 v2500 for several years. I am just getting around to installing a new 2nd tank. I had no issues with the fuel pump years ago when I removed it. Should I replace it anyway? I do have a new rubber seal and ring for it.

Re: Fuel pump replace or not?
I guess that depends what your time is worth and how much money you have.
Me, I would use the old pump and if it didn't work or stopped working I would replace it. Myself. I don't have a lot of money and I have the time and tools to do the job. That's my answer and i'm sticking to it....

Re: Fuel pump replace or not?
In tank pumps usually fail when outlet hose develops a leak. A leaky hose causes drop in back pressure and pump spins faster wearing it self out. If you have tank down drop a new, AC-Delco pump with Gates SAE 30R10 (fuel immersion rated hose ) between pump and tank feed through. Being stranded on the side of the road with full gas tank is not a fun idea in my book.

Re: Fuel pump replace or not?
Thanks for the responses. Wraprail I too hate to spend money when something works so I am going to use the old pump.
Remaster - I will pull the pump and inspect the hoses and if possible replace what I can with your recommendation. The truck has dual tanks so hopefully I won't get stranded if one fails. I'll stuff a siffon hose behind the seat just in case. Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device |
