49 gmc

Got a line on a 49 gmc. They think it is a 1 ton, 8 lug and it had a flat bed. Cab and front end is supposed to be pretty solid. It ran a little over a yr ago, trans and rear end are there. I guess I'd have to come up with a 1/2 ton frame and a bed. I'd go Camaro clip if I do this. Got to go look at it, right now they're at $700. Also, I should of started out that I'm new here. Got a 72 chevelle, 434 sb, right now. Wanting to build a hotrod from the 40's, love the older trucks. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Come on guys, give me some advice here. Would the eng, trans, rear end be worth anything? This is a budget build so I wish it was a 1/2 ton so I could use the rear section of the frame, or possibly use it all with a mus 2 type frt end from Speedway.

Not sure what the original drive line would be worth, but there are people looking for original engines etc...I would think some one would want it.

As far as frame, I did the S-10 swap on my 51 1/2 ton. I paid $200 for the frame, with 4 usable stock wheels and tires, power brake booster and master cylinder. I made my own cab and box mounts. In my opinion, a pretty good way to do it. Some people don't like the s-10 swap, but it worked well for me with out too much extra cost, just some fabricating.

Read through some of the builds on this site(projects and builds section). It may help you decide which way you want to go with the frame.

Around here original driveline is worth scrap price unfortunately. Stock 216 and 4 speed is not very sought after.

Throw a engineered IFS system on the front of the stock frame and toss in an updated rear end.

I am going the s10 route. If I had more money to throw at it I would go with an engineered IFS and a 4 link rear with bags all around, I'm trying to build with a limited budget. S10's are easy to find for 100-200 bucks with nost everything you need. Parts are easy to find and not to expensive. Then find yourself a good small block chevy motor and tranny and go with it. This is just advice. Take it for what it's worth and build it the way YOU want it. Either way there are tons of ppl here that have done it both ways so don't be afraid to ask for help.

Be sure and post up some pics when you get an eye ball on it whether you buy it or not. We can't get enough of these old trucks!
