Talking NO SPARK condition cured 84 silverado 305-LE9 (vin H)

With help from a another Forum user, we determined that the ESC box caused fault in ignition system. Fix: all new electronic distributor components (even though all were within tolerance except low resistance on pick up coil) and jumper the green and black wires of the 4 prong ESC module plug (at the distributor). It seems that the failure in the "sparkbox" disallows one of the transistors in the IGN module not to complete the circuit required for high voltage generation and... NO SPARK .

This was very confusing seeing that all components tested out to be within tolerance and the module tested out fine.

hmmm.... i'm having a no spark problem with my 86. im going to try a non-esc distributor and see if that fixes it.

The only thing left to my ESC system is the letters on the tailgate. Works great.

I don't mean to sound like an expert on this but, try jumpering the green & black wires on the ESC plug at the distributor
if all else fails (i.e. all other components are good)!

Now that I'm running again it seems the factory timing setting is no longer valid. Without the knock sensor what should I run the timing at? (Was 4deg BTDC @ 500RPM).

I have done the same mod to my truck. My question is since teh ESCC is no longer used, can it along with all of the wires to it be removed?

I don't see why not.. I've got all my wires unplugged and no knock sensor.
I just haven't crawled up under the dash yet and started pulling wire.

Yep, the rest of the not used crap can be removed. You'll need to plug the hole in the firewall after removing the harness. The knock sensor is where normally you would have a plug to drain the block of coolant. If you remove the knock sensor, get a pipe plug to go back in the hole. Also, be prepared to get wet.

Do you know if the emissions controlled trucks have different computers than the ESC only trucks? I have an oxygen sensor and an "electronic" carb - is it controlled by the ESC computer???

Yes, emission controlled trucks have different computers. The ESC (electronic spark control) only controlls spark knock. If your truck is computer controlled, it has a ECM (electronic control module). One of the functions of the module is to control timing too. But it also controls fuel.
