GMC guys dash gauge cluster??

So debating what I should do.. Dont care much for the factory gauges. I have been looking on ebay at some clusters but they are pricey and don't really want to go with electronic sending units. Seen mechanical speedway gauge sets for about the same price as the shark gauge sets.
Also thought about getting some diamond plate and trying to cut it to fit but not sure how it would look.
Anyone done anything like this?

Re: GMC guys dash gauge cluster??

We will work Clarence J's build thread to death today as he has several ideas that are relevant to threads today. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=567211 Scroll down the page a ways and check how he made a panel for his instruments. You could use about what ever flat material you wanted to and even cut out a plain steel panel and put something like a piece of carbon fiber sheet on it if that spun your wheels.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Haha thanks and carbon fiber I actually liked the thought of that but dans response would be like some others. Got some "Tuner" in it. haha

I actually never really thought about plain aluminum looked into some diamond plate. I was just wondering how you would get the lines right.

That looks good. I've always wanted to have an excuse to try my hand at engine turning. I'm sure if you searched YouTube you could find some instruction.

Re: GMC guys dash gauge cluster??

Or you could weld in a piece of steel and install a cluster meant for a different car for a new look. One is CAL58 GMC's dash with I think a 32 ford billet insert and the other is mine with a custom made insert and Omega Kustom guages.

Hey Tomb23, regarding your GMC gauge set, they look great! Tell us more ... how were the new gauges installed in the original bezel? Who's gauges did you use?

Re: GMC guys dash gauge cluster??

They are Auto Loc Gauges and to mount them I used (Speedometer & Tach Bezels) with original Hold downs in combination with Auto Loc's Mounting rings .

Re: GMC guys dash gauge cluster??

Looks good. Anyone ever tried the speedway gauge set? What I liked is they are mechanical and not electronic.
