1975 Crossmember and disc's

Local Yard has a 75 front end. Cross member, spindles, rotors, springs, calipers for a direct swap on my 65. They are asking 450.00. Is that a good price? I will try to talk them down or throw in a P/S box, but wanted to know what others are paying.

Seems a bit pricey to me for parts that will most likely all need rebuilt before being installed.
Around here we can buy a whole parts truck for that kind of money, but things are priced differently in different places.

That's way too expensive.
For that price, you could almost get a complete parts truck and get the crossmember, the entire brake system, power steering, steering column, and rear end all in one shot.

Start looking through Craigslist and look for somebody parting out a '73-'87. I have seen complete front suspensions go for around $150 and up. Be patient, and you'll find one when you least expect it.

I know of one being parted with tilt and complete suspension that could be had for less than that whole . Its a shame youre too far away to come get it ,Ive thought about buying it but just dont need another one .

I picked up an '87 cross member. Everything from hub to hub, brake booster and master cylinder, power steering gear and all steering linkage for $175 on Craigslist. They are out there, keep looking.

I paid $125.00 for an 82. The yard just cut the frame in front of the firewall and loaded it on my truck as well.

Thanks for the reply's I called them back today and someone bought it already. Anyway, I will keep looking on craigslist. I am not in a hurry.

I would think $125 to $150 is a fair price.

I bought a running, drivable (tho badly beaten) truck for $400. I plan on pulling everything I need and selling parts I don't need and then scrapping the rest out. By the time it all said and done, I should have next to nothing in the parts I want/need.

I bought a front stub w/ the m/c and booster, and the steering box for $100.
also bought a complete 2wd sub for the same price....

Well I guess I am going to stay away from junkyards. They want to much money. Another yard here has a 72 crossmember and everything and they want 350.00 for it. I will keep looking.

Did you try making them an offer? Most yards will negotiate. Go in and tell them all you will be able to use is the crossmember, control arms, and sway bar because everything else will be worn out. Worked for me...

Buying stuff in Commiefornia is usually more expensive than anywhere else, especially So-Cal. I've come across 73-87 pick ups that have been rear ended, no engine or glass, and the owner still want's $700 or more. I HAVE come across a couple deals, but haven't had the funds.
Cab 01, is the $350 for just crossmember, or the whole front frame? If it's just crossmember, have them throw in the swaybar and/or master cyl/booster asm.
Like 1965Project said, see if they'll bargain a little, it wouldn't hurt.

gofastnut, I agree with you about Kalifornia, however here in San Diego I just can't leave the weather.

Someone already bought the one I was looking at. I took the advice here and looked for a donor truck. I have found a 78 for 300.00. No motor or trans but the rest of the truck is in pretty good shape.

That's more like it! You can use a bunch of parts off of that '78, and when you've picked it clean, then you can take the rest of it to the scrapper and make back a couple hundred bucks from the purchase price. It's a win/win.

Another thing to remember. You might find someone who would be interested in your original '65 suspension, either as whole or for parts. If you can't, then you can jury-rig it to the '78 carcass and it'll be a lot easier to load up onto the trailer for the trip to the scrap yard.

I wound up using a '79 Suburban for a donor, and after it was all said and done, I picked that thing clean. I actually made money on it in the long run.
