Cam Grinders
Why is it that when you give the same specs to 10 different cam companies you get 10 different cams that aren't even close to what your looking for? Is it most only want to sell a catalog cam and not a custom ground cam?
Can you please recommend a grinder who you personally have used for your motor per your specs?

Generally speaking, I haven't used off the shelf stuff. But I haven't used a cam guy either. I have come up with most the profiles I have run via my engine analyzer program. I will play with different scenarios for hours on end, sleep on it an tweak it a little more. This practice has done me well. From that point, I look through comps lobe catalog and call them up with the lobe numbers and what intake center and exhaust center I want. Done. With that said, there is a guy in the Sac area named John and owns Dougherty racing cams. Very knowledgable, does all custom stuff and is very fair on price. Call Martin at Tick. He will take all your specs, and your intended use for a truck and give you a cam that will work well....and a couple paragraphs about WHY he chose the specs he did. Class act.

I always using a cam timing wheel and a micrometer that fits in the lifter hole to verify.
