What Oil for an old inline 6?
Hi folks I did a search but there were soooooo many threads to wade through I hoped that i'd get a quicker answer here.
Bearing in mind i'm in the UK, what oil should I be running in my old inline 6 250 Hi Torque? Also what quantity should it take if i did an oil change? Thanks in advance.

Re: What Oil for an old inline 6?
My 65 owners manual calls for 10W30. The 230 I have is rebuilt so I run 4.5 quarts of 10W30 and a 1/2 quart of ZDDP additave with filter change at each oil change. If the motor is a bit worn, ya can also run 10W40 if it ain't too cold.

Re: What Oil for an old inline 6?
I use 15-40w fleet-line oil in my 230 does wonders for these old things mine has 130k on it. It also helps quit lifters if there noisey. I also live in utah and have never had a problem with the thick oil during the winter. I also run 17-20 mpg. Good luck!

Re: What Oil for an old inline 6?
Multi weight oil is for a wider tempeture range I would say somewhere in the middle like 20w-40 but remember the modern oil has no ZDDP in it so you will have to add some to it. They are selling oil now with the zinc in it for the older vehicles but not everywhere. Use what the owners manual indicates hot-thicker colder-thinner, what climate you live in decides the weight. Brands don't matter it all comes from the same refinery or hole in the ground, just change it at mfg. indicated intervals and you will be fine..Vernski
