Going by the LMC catalog, 1972 would have side posts as thats what style of cables they sell for a 72. I run a AC Delco grp 78 in my 72

Re: factory battery ? 72 K5.

Well im not the original owner but mine is top post now. When I called the Interstate Battery store to ask, he said his book showed it as a side post, that's why I was posting.

Need to hear from an original owner. pound41, are you the original owner?

Re: factory battery ? 72 K5.

This may not help but my K20 was equipped with a side post battery by GM. Currently, my K5 has a top post. When the K5 battery needs to be replaced I will swap it for a side post.
