64 2 Speed Auto to 3 on the tree
I have to 2 speed in my 64 right now i want to put the tree on the tree in for a more fun driving experience without making the middle of the bench uncomfortable. I live in the country and would like some suggestions on a transmission that would work on the tree but have closer to an O/D gear so its not screaming going down the road. But still want to b able to peel the tires in first. let me know please!! your help is awesome thanks and also the procedures to do so would be sweet!

Re: 64 2 Speed Auto to 3 on the tree
A manual 3 speed will only marginally reduce your freeway rpm over the old automatic 2spd. Only because there's a bit of hydraulic slip in the automatic. The reduction probably won't be too noticeable however, and the 3 speed won't tolerate too many clutch droppin' peel outs before it gives out. Consider an automatic like the 700 r4. You get the best of both worlds, a low 1st and an overdrive 4th. When built and installed properly they can handle some abuse too.

Re: 64 2 Speed Auto to 3 on the tree
I hear nothing but great things from the turbo 400 and the 700r4. My 65 has a 3 on the tree and it pops out of 3rd gear none stop. In 40 miles it popped out 18 times. After that I figured out I had to leave my hand on it to keep it in gear. I'd give you mine if I a had a 400 or 700
