Wire hook up question
Ok I have two wire left to tie in under the hood one is marked solinoid power and is a heavy wire. The other is marked ignition switch start. In looking at the solinoid, the heavy wire with connector is the positive going to the battery. The purple wire is simply cut off from the original tear down and goes to nothing(next to the block). The small wire behind the heavy one is white and the same, just cut off (I forgot to mark what was what years ago). From looking at the picture can you tell which small post is supposed to go for what?
I took two pictures onw with the pos. cable attached and one with out.

bigger of the two is start wire purple it goes to the S terminal the other is your HOT start wire (you have points? ) it goes to the R terminal

I put in the petronix system. Whenyou sat "Start Ternimal' do you mean the ignition? Sorry to be so ignorant, but the first time is the hardest.

i looked up PERTRONIX it is an electronic ING. kit so you should not need the white wire hooked up any more and your purple wire looks like it is on the (S) terminal in the pics so remove the white and cap it off and you should be good to go

what year is your truck jbgroby? on my original model pertronix, if the coil used a ballast resistor originally, then it still required one. I assume the old resistor wire used in our trucks served the same purpose as a ballast resistor. in which case, it's still needed to protect the coil unless you've upgraded the coil to something that runs on full 12 volts all the time. May be different in newer model pertronixs but I'd check the instructions or give them a call just to be sure. The module itself does need full 12.
the purple wire is energized by the ignition switch when you turn to "start". if you have an automatic trans, this should run thru a neutral safety switch first.

Hi Larry yes the resistor wire does the same as an external ballast resistor ...But the wire on the solenoid (R terminal) bypasses the resistor to throw full voltage to the OEM coil when starting hence (HOT START.. doubles the spark) with the HEI kit i dont know if that is still needed or even wise if it still uses the resistor wire ( 6 volt) to the the new coil all of that info. should be with the kit

jtrichard, Hi. Thanks, yes, I knew that's how it worked with the starter wire but it's good to share in case others need to know. My concern was the coil, and hopefully I'll learn something here, but I don't know if the coil, even if it's a newer "performance" type, will be OK on 12 volts. As I mentioned, the pertronix instructions I have show the coil being fed via a resisted supply. Also, the instructions for my accel super coil show the same requirement (actually 2 resistors needed) except for CD and "laser" systems.
