1964 gmc 1000 master cylinder problems

I recently bought a 64 gmc trying to get it back running When I got it there was no master cylinder or rod that connects to the pedal so I bought a master cylinder but it has two openings on it I only have one line. So what is the other opening for? It's still has factory drums all the way around? And where can I find that rod that connects to the pedal?

there should only be one line hook up. as far as the rod goes you will have to find some one who has changed to something else, and has one laying around

You don't have the correct master cylinder for your truck. You will need to either return that one and get the correct one, or keep that one and split your brake lines. The dual reservior master cylinders use one port for the front brakes, and the other for the rear. Of course this is assuming that the master you got, will even work for a 4 wheel drum brake system. It's hard to say what they gave you.

Yea I think I'll just split them because they won't take it back because it was special order so maybe it'll work I hope

That is true......don't know why I didn't think of that. It might be best if we could see a pic of the master cylinder you have.

Re: 1964 gmc 1000 master cylinder problems

I think that it is there mistake if you ordered one for a 64 and I would tell them so. That being said safety wise it's better to have two separate lines so if one fails you still have brakes. But it will cost you more to hook that up so you will need some extra parts there. If money is a concern at all take it back and make them eat it and have them get you the right one. JMO but that's what I'd do if it was there mistake. Anyway good luck with your truck..Vernski

going to tun the org m/s (new of course) on my 61. could change everything to new style with capt's kit-- hyd and new booster, but it wouldn't look anywhere stock. i am also going to use the org. hydro-vac power brake setup. if not close to stock, by all means upgrade the brake system!
