65 Bell housing compatability
Anyone know if a 65 235 straight six bell housing, starter, flywheel etc. will work on a 1970 350 LA Camero motor block. I am new to the Chevy world and not familiar with interchanging parts.

Re: 65 Bell housing compatability
if the 6 is a 235 then no, but 235's stopped in 62
the 230/250/292 that were in the 63's on up use the same bellhousing as a v8

Re: 65 Bell housing compatability
put up a pic of your engine, and we can tell you if it is a 235 , or the later 230/250/292...

Re: 65 Bell housing compatability
That's a 230/250 engine. Yes a small block will bolt up to the bellhousing, and also to the motor mount brackets, just where they are. The starter and flywheel will work also. It looks like someone has changed the radiator to something that is not original. Consequently, you will not be able to use a stock fan shroud with that 350 engine, unless you change to an original size radiator and the side pieces to bolt the shroud to.

Re: 65 Bell housing compatability
Completely different engines. Many differences. Valve cover is the easiest tell tale sign. Distributor is placed further back, exhaust manifolds are different also. Here is the 235. The orange engine is a 292, which is the larger 6 cyl made when the 230/250's were made. The look pretty much the same as the 230/250, there are some differences though, most notably they have larger push rod covers and the engine has different mounting locations.
