Lock Up on trans.
I may buy a 63 with a 700R4 trans. The seller says the lock up will kick out and kick in while driving. Is this normal?

BowTie transmissions
Are BowTie trasmissions any good? And what other companies rebuild them?

Re: Lock Up on trans.
At cruise speed? Need more info.. its not normal at cruise. It locks up at cruise speed and then unlocks when you accelerate or tap the brake pedal. Does it have an automatic lock up? Some of them have manual locking.. Get more info

Re: Lock Up on trans.
Thanks. I have not bought the truck yet. I was getting info to see if I should buy it or not. Maybe if I can get for $2,000 less that would cover a new trans plus labor. What is automatic, and manual lock up?

700R4 lock up
What can cause the trans lock up to kick in and out? It kicks in and out of overdrive. And are BowTie transmissions any good? And who else rebuilds them?

Re: Lock Up on trans.
I wire mine up to a switch and lock it myself.

Re: Lock Up on trans.
I would bet that the TV cable is not adjusted properly, as they are very particular in how they are set. Must be correct or trans failure can occur. Improper setting will cause it to seem very touchy and lock in/lock out with very little throttle movement.
Most will call it a "kick down" cable like on an old TH350 trans, but it is a throttle valve cable which controls fluid pressure inside the trans. Adjustment is critical to trans life. Most any trans shop can adjust it for you, or you can search the web or here and find info. It is not complicated to do, just take your time and follow instructions. |
